The Battle of Yavin. The very name conjures images of an epic struggle between the forces of good and evil. Heroes are born and heroes die. And then there's Stacy.
The short fan film Pink Five occurs entirely in the cockpit of one X-Wing fighter with a clueless pilot who is shoved in the midst of galactic history. While Tie fighters explode around her, Stacy is more concerned with helmet hair and chatting up cute smugglers on her cell phone.
For fan boys like me, her running commentary on the events around her will be reminiscent of movie dates with girlfriends who barely tolerate but just don't get the whole "geek" thing. In the words of Stacy, "I don't know what it is with all these tech guys who have to talk all like technical all the time. They say stuff like, 'Pick up your visual scanning!' when all the have to say is, 'Look around!'"
But the technical stuff is great. Outside Stacy's cockpit you see fighters dive, blasters flash, and things explode. It completely lives up to the production quality of the films, even better than the original films before they were remastered in the late 90's.
Watch Pink Five. You will believe a valley girl can fly.
