It's the same plot you've seen in a dozen fan films. Sith and Jedi do battle with flashing sabers and sparks flying from their fingertips. There is no real script. There is no real plot. Kids' stuff. And this time it really is.
And it's absolutely charming.
This is by no stretch a professional film or a great film, but I loved it. Perhaps it's because I'm a father of two kids about the age of Victor, Oscar, & Oliver and I understand the joy of fathers playing with their kids.
The special effects are especially good. I especially like the effect when Zap masks one of his robot clones. But what is best is the Andersson boys gee whiz, honest reaction to everything that happens. And Oscar's little victory dance at the end is priceless.
Best of all is the total lack of pretense in this film. Kid Wars was filmed in the Andersson's back yard. Nothing is done to cover up this fact. Everything is out of place for a Star Wars movie - costumes, sets, props, everything. And, while I'm picky with that in other films, somehow here it's just fine. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than four kids having a blast - one of the kids being about 6 feet tall.
If you enjoy watching kids being kids, and adults being kids, you'll enjoy watching the Andersson boys whoop it up.
