What? A fan film without a single lightsaber duel? No blasters? No text crawl? What's going on here?

What's going on here is a nice change of pace. Carbonite is a slice of life drama which takes place in the real world. An insurance agent (yes, an insurance agent) is scarred by the memory of a childhood incident in which a beloved toy is stolen by a bully. That moment becomes frozen in time. Fate offers him an opportunity to right that wrong from so long ago, but what is the nature of justice?

Yeah, heady stuff for a five minute fan film, but Carbonite rises to the task admirably. The cinematography is terrific, with great use of color, black and white, and sepia toned film. The sound editing is some of the best I've heard, with an original score by CrushedLeaf & Sean Naughton that really makes the film.

Do yourself a favor and take a break between dogfights and view this very thoughtful film.
